Baja Day 9
We woke to a serene view across the ocean.
After several days on the boat today would be a chance to stretch our legs with an early landing on Isla Santa Catalina. This uninhabited island is very much classic desert terrain covered with extremely thorny cacti.
Despite the hot and arid conditions, a few bird species survive on the islands as well as Desert Iguana.
The island is also famous for its population of rattleless rattle snakes, believed to be an adaption to their need to hunt birds.
Returning to the ship as it got too hot on land, we were joined by a pod of bottlenosed dolphins.
The dolphin show was interrupted by a huge raft of eared grebes.
The afternoon finished with a super-pod of common dolphins, more than 1000-strong who were surrounding the ship in a feeding frenzy. Astonishing to see and almost impossible to photograph as the action is just so fast.
Another fiery sunset with a pair of grebes sealed the end of the day.
